Mad Hatter

May is one of my favorite months and tends to be one of my busiest. I have been patiently waiting for the weather to cooperate like it should. I have over scheduled myself for wedding/event season and it just so happens that most of my family member's birthdays are this month. The first weekend of May, though, is one of my highlights for the month... its the Kentucky Derby. Growing up around horses it seems only natural to write and share insight for those who may not understand what the Derby represents.
Tradition, value, sportsmanship, fine cuisine, fashion and a history unlike any other. The Kentucky Derby is a spectacle playground of wealth and all who share a love for the sport. The singing of chants and song are normally the loudest from within the "Millionaires Row", which refers to the expensive (overly priced) box seats that tend to attract the wealthy, famous and lets not forget the well-connected. Women prance around in their lavish hats and matching outfits as the horses below do the same in front of the grandstands while the Louisville Marching Band plays "My Old Kentucky Home". If you don't know the words to this song I would suggest you learn them if planning to visit this event. As so, we Derby ladies push the fashion expo at any level of seating. Its difficult to explain the sensation of excitement before the race begins; a social plaza scene, a flood of colorful hats and charm that is simply bona fide southern. There is something for everyone during this weekend, so if nothing else interest you about the race then do be so kind to take view ship of the ambiance of hats that flood Churchill Downs.

It is a true talent to be declared the Derby's Best-Dressed Fashionista

{Personally, I may opt for a more Hepburn approach}
