Of A Certain Hobby

When I first moved to New York I had a serious habit of 'people watching'. Honestly, I admit that it is probably one of my favorite things to do to pass time. So during my lunch break I would head over to West 65th street and plop down on a stone hedge in front of Juilliard. Maybe it was slightly bizarre that I did this almost every Monday through Friday but the best of the best (in the arts) come out of Juilliard's glass doors- and that meant excellent people watching for me. I saw anything from the creepiest to some of the most artist of people doing their thing like any college student did. I loved when I was able to get there during the practice of their artistic projects on the campus grounds; ballerinas dancing in high fashion couture or nude leotards, actors studying their lines running into civilians passing by and some of the most amazing sounds you'll ever here from a musician practicing their solo. This intrigued me to start taking photographs of the randomness of New York (and Juilliard). However, I quickly learned that just by owning a camera does not make me a photographer. But I'll continue to keep trying and undoubtedly try to grow up to be Jan Masny, who is a fantastic photographer that I absolutely adore.

  1. Wow! Beautiful photos! I must admit, as a fellow NY-er, I think we all do it. I personally like to watch when I'm on the train (if I'm not sleeping!).
