Benefiting from my kitchen

One of my fellow blogger friends is always talking about being in the kitchen and how spending more time there can really benefit your cooking skills if you happen to lack in that department. Well surprise... I do some serious lacking in the cooking department. I have great decorating skills for the part of the house but actually using that space... it mainly collects dust (not really, I keep it clean, but you get the picture). Recently, however, my dear friend let me in on an easy little recipe, Corn Salad. Since trying it out I have taken the time to visit my kitchen more often and have made Corn Salad every week thus far. I think my poor boyfriend is ready for my friend to share a different recipe- now that I've mastered this one.
{Here we go- On a hot grill, grill your corn (I used 3 ears, and we got about 4 servings). About 3-4 minutes before flipping it around. I don't really have a science when I'm out on the grill, get them toasty and char'd up!}
{While the corn is grilling - Thinly slice 1/2 red onion. Half or Quarter about 1 pint of grape tomatoes. Chop 2 avocados, to be roughly the same size as your tomatoes. Slice 1 lemon for juice.}
{Trick: Let corn cool first - they get hot! ;) & to easily cut corn off the ear, get a large bowl, place a small bowl upside down in center. The large owl will catch everything and the small is a great balance point - All the goodies fall where they need to! (remove small bowl when done....obviously, but just checking!)}
Don't act like you're not impressed :)

Hello, Obsession.

I always cringe when my friends discuss these crazy diet bingings that they heard "worked" but have yet to see proof of results... and, yet again, still are tempted to try it. So FDA approved or not it seems like someone is willing to try something that this one person said worked- a friend of a second cousin, twice removed or something like that. Silliness. Stick with what you know and give healthy a chance to be your lifestyle change. A dynamic duo if I say so myself is Pilates and Advocare but even if you haven't been keeping up with me about either of them then please consult with friends that are brutally honest and look out for your best interest. This is my life-long obsession... a healthy lifestyle. Besides, everyone deserves a good obsession.

Day 23

One day left of my Advocare 24-Day Challenge. I must admit I was impressed, once I got the schedule down for the different cycles it went by quickly and was easy enough. To be completely honest with you, I did pick up the pace on my marathon training schedule (so I was running more often these past 24 days) and I switched over my diet to more fish and veggies, less fruit and zero coffee- yes, NO coffee. The greatest thing about this challenge was I never felt run down and tired, I mean of course after working out I was cashed in and ready for sleep but going along throughout my day I felt great. So taking into consideration that I was already putting my body in a slight shock with changing up my diet, running more, advancing my pilates routine and starting the 24 Day cleanse... well, I'm impressed that I wasn't exhausted and this cleanse was able to fit perfectly into my everyday life. I've now got my mother, close friends and BoHo followers willing and tying out more Advocare products. It's looking like Advocare will fit nicely within BoHo Studio
P.S. Total weight loss after 24 Day Challenge... 5 pounds.

Delicate Cycle

Like I say, "Keep it simple & YOU". You can never go wrong with a great pair of denim and a individuality that is expressed through your style.

Bizarre: In the best of ways

I'm pretty fickle when it comes to food. I never eat my left-overs and I go through phases of "my favorite" food for that specific month. I even hesitate when it comes to trying new or different foods- I'm that girl... the one that feels, smells and judges the food/drink before even attempting to taste it. Yet, since turning over a new leaf just this year, I have vowed (whispered) to try new things- no matter the texture or smell. Here are some of my bizarrely favorite food & drinks for the month...

Words of Sound

Dear Monday:

I love it that you're such a creature of habit, arriving right on schedule- each time, each week. Today I really needed a boost to get motivated for this busy week. I've got a to-do list the size of California and nothing beats my hectic/busy/moody Mondays than good tunes. If your week is has already crossed the finish line before you've had a chance to even stretch than I would suggest letting Girl Talk take from here. Grab that iPod and shuffle your Girl Talk tunes for a successful Monday.

"Aha" Moments

... I make myself smile every time with these and others.

Taking It To The Jeans

I honestly feel you can never go wrong with a great pair of jeans. With colder weather around the corner its time to check out your options. Fashion knows no age and denim this season is definitely reiterating that fact. Go bold and make it your own- denim and I are here for you!!

To Vote or Not To Vote

A few weeks ago I entered my Pilates studio business plan in DailyCandy's Start Small, Go Big contest. Today all 3,000 (plus) entries were informed that 12 business plans, three from the four categories, had been selected. They have yet to reveal who the lucky selectees are but the twitter buzz is going crazy. I'm pretty sure they'll let us know who has been chosen the day that voting begins. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that BoHo Studio made the cut... It would be amazing!                Wish me luck- and vote BoHo

You Know Its A Good Day

It's a good day when all can be set aside and apologies are given for any hurt that was brought on by another. Peace, love, music & equality are all your need. Today is a good day.

Words of Sound

Who knew Wesleyan University could produce such a grand psychedelic rock band? But brains weren't the only thing going for
Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden (a name like that and its no surprise he attended Wesleyan, poor thing). These intellectual  gentlemen are MGMT. Yes, that aggressive neo-psychedelia sound that takes indietronica beats to an entire new level, your stereo will have no choice but to push the volume up past it's last steady notch.  There sound is a staple in my house, car, ipod and most of all MGMT will be a staple sound through the airwaves of BoHo Studio.

Friday

Bright Lights, Big City

It's date night with the girls (which happen to be twins might I add) tonight. Thank goodness for the two of them along with my boyfriend and family because keeping my sanity while pushing the studio forward in development isn't always possible. But its Friday and the girls and I are hitting one of our favorite spots in Oklahoma, Cafe 501. It's a lively dinner place where everyone is friendly and the social atmosphere is never dim. Myself with the Twins will be out and about in the city all weekend checking out the newest and oldest hot spots. Giving my home state an equal part of my Bright Lights, Big City (not Manhattan big, but good size) while I'm floating back and forth. Missing NYC but nothing says home better than Oklahoma!

Thursday

Day 9

So it's Day 9 and I'm official passed the herbal cleansing pills. I'll be moving on to the next phase of Advocare's 24 Day Challenge which I am looking forward to because I'm eager to see the end results. However, don't misjudge my eagerness, I'm still carefully watching my diet and making sure I make the most of this cleanse. As far as the actually 24 Day Challenge product it's a very simple; very detailed with its directions and there are also web cast, conference contact calls, and even color by number reminder directions (in case you lose the first set of directions) to help if you have any questions. Thus, I trust this product and I am considering attending some of Advocare's meetings that discuss the science behind what it preaches. If all works out BoHo 'Lifestyle' Studio will be a proud sponsor for all Advocare products.

Falling for Fall

My house is a mad house right now, literally, stuff is every where. It has cooled off outside maybe 2 degrees and I'm pulling out all my fall decorations! My boyfriend tends to think that I get a little carried away but I know he enjoys the decor once I have it finished. I try not to be that "creepy" neighbor that decorates for each holiday. But honestly, I really don't except for possibly going full throttle with Fall accessories. I think the Fall season is very romantic and crisp so I welcome it into my house. I craft and use it all... from different shades of reds, oranges, yellows and greens to different size pumpkins, massive amounts of candles (favorite: Bath & Body's Pumpkin Spice), leaves in vases and glitter- yes, glitter too. By the time I'm done decorating the house smells of warmth and lights up any visitor's eyes when they come to visit.

Why I Miss You When I'm Gone

It sometimes wears on me when I'm gone from the city for so long. Between the busy schedule of visiting family all over, working on the Pilates studio (Boho Studio) in Oklahoma, my events schedule and the Health & Wellness campaigns- I seriously will need a rooftop bar and delightfully cold cocktail for when I get back. Like I was saying though, the feel of the city is very much missed. I love the constant 'Go' of Manhattan and the stillness of the buildings when I look across the skyline. I've had an amazing summer floating around from state to state but I'm always so thankful when I pack my suitcase to head back to the big city.                           Dear New York City: I miss you when I'm gone.

Words of Sound

Trumpets, violins, tambourines, saxophones and cellos.... sounds oh so good. Lykke Li's Wounded Rhymes album (out now) will leave you wanting more. So thank goodness she has her first album, Youth Novels, that was released in 2008 that is just has powerful. I've known about this Swedish singer-songwriter for a while now but I didn't really get into her sound until last fall when I was training for marathons. Hands down one of my favorite artist to have on my "running" playlist, as well as, to have handy on weekend drives through upstate.

Friday

August Brings

Yes, as I keep saying I'm in love with the Fall and Winter seasons. August is the start of the climate cool down (sort of), plus, its a preparing month to start gearing up for all the holidays to come. This is the time when my boyfriend and I take our rocking climbing dates, double up on the brunch hours and spend more quality time outside with our pets. It's a beautiful season so use it to your advantage- Happy August.

See What I'm Saying

I've been pulling out all my over sized sweaters and every pair of boots that I can reach in my closet. Rearranging for Fall and Winter has got me in a pretty great mood. These are my favorite seasons and I absolutely love layering it on- a dress with a vest, boots and then the coat with the needed accessories of a scarf, hat and lets never forget jewelry.... so much jewelry. So ready for Fall fashion!

Wednesday

Day One

I'm brutally honest when it comes to my health. I don't get suckered into the "now" diets and I'm all for being able to maintain my weight rather than bouncing between pounds. Recently, I was approached by a close friend of mine, we got to chatting like girls do and we got onto the subject of fitness (crazy, I know). She started explaining her weight lose (9 lb) and introduced me to her favorite health products. Of course my girlfriend read my facial expressions but she simply continued explaining and then asked if I would test it out- before giving her another 'look'. Never not up for a challenge- I accepted. I am on Day One of the Advacare's 24-Day Challenge and I will be keeping updates of how well I'm doing on this product. I've done my research, looked over very possible angle that would deter me from trying it out.... and there is nothing, it's an all natural healthy product.
I'll keep you updated on the details on my 24-Day Challenge, so stay tuned. In the mean time- Stay Simply, Keep Healthy and follow my up in coming BoHo 'Lifestyle' Studio on Twitter.

You're Late... For A Very Important Date

Hurry, Hurry its not to late- There is still time to see one of the most mesmerising sights for all whom share a love of fashion. May 4th through August 7th the Metropolitan Museum has been playing host to the beloved creations of Alexander McQueen. This is something you don't want to miss... so cash in your flyer miles or if you already live near "the Met" then make your way over and prepare to baffle yourself over the brilliant creativity a garment can possess.

Monday

Words of Sound

A sweet, sweet melody that only Bon Iver can produce. Tucking himself away in a remote cabin in Wisconsin is one way of creating it (my boyfriend has serious envy for him). For Emma, Forever Ago is one of the most romantic indie folk albums I have ever heard and which only would make sense considering where he was when he wrote the lyrics. A charismatic lullaby tribute from the "good winter" singer himself... fyi, Bon Iver was derived from the french phrase bon hiver meaning "have a good winter"/"good winter". After hearing this album you'll completely understand as to why it's so fitting. Je l'adore!
